PokerStars is the poker site with the most traffic, regardless of whether we look at tournament play or cash games. The site is available in over 25 different languages and over 65 billion hands have been played here between 2001 and 2011.

PokerStars used to be based in Costa Rica, but is now headquartered in Isle of Man and has an Isle of Man gambling license.

Welcome bonus

Your first three deposits will yield you a 100% match bonus up to $600, provided that you make the deposits within 90 days after registering.

The welcome bonus is not deposited into your account right away; you need to release it by wagering real money on PokerStars. When you play for real money, you are given player points. 170 player points is required to release $10 of your welcome bonus. Your bonus needs to be released within six months; points that you collect after this period can not be used to release the welcome bonus.

Software

PokerStars is not a member of any poker network and they have developed their very own software that you can find nowhere else on the net. Unlike most other poker sites, PokerStars offers downloadable client not just for Windows users but for Mac users as well. If you're using the operative system Linux, the Windows client will work if WINE v0.9.1 or later is installed on your computer.

PokerStars poker client is ideal for multi-tabling players because it is possible to run up to 24 tables simultaneously here.

The famous online poker tours World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) and Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) are both held at PokerStars. You can also use PokerStars tournaments to satellite your way into major live tournaments, such as World Series of Poker (WSOP) and PokerStars sponsored tours like NAPT, EPT, APPT, LAPT and PCA.

Also, if you try to make a deposit into your PokerStars account and it doesn't work properly, a pop-up window will open automatically and you will be asked to enter your phone number. If you do so, a support representative will call you and help you finish the deposit.
