The knowledge of calculating the pot odds is a fundamental poker skill that no player should be without. The skill is very powerful because pot odds can tell you quite accurately whether it is profitable or not to call bets hoping you'll hit a draw. This concept of calculating pot odds works by comparing the size of the bet and the pot size to the chances that your draw will hit. This is a very easy concept to learn, luckily, and before you even realize you will be calculating pot odds all the time, even when you are not in a hand. Calculating pot odds when you are not playing helps you find the fish at the table, who chases draws against the odds.

"The Greedy Chameleon" PDF Print E-mail

As I stated in the Bring Out The Beast article, this is the second part of the story. If the first part was about what aggressive game play is and about two of the most common reasons why you should play aggressive, in this article we shall get deeper into the action and develop your game even further. Being greedy is a great quality on a multi-table tournament than at full ring table. This is because in a multi-table tournament the blinds will keep rising, they will get to a new level every ten minutes, and you have to do the same in order to win. It's exactly like fishing in a pond with 9 other people and when the fish is caught by you and three others, you have to do something to get it for yourself. Stealing the blinds is not the worst way to win a hand in a multi-table because this will ever increase your stack with more chips, but in a ring table is like you are trying to show everyone you always hit premium hands, but you don’t and you make a fool of your self when you loose.

Well balanced poker players use bluffing as a poker strategy, but is also one of the most unused tools we have in our poker arsenal. We have seen, in our everyday poker play, lots of bluffs thrown random without a certain reason or without a plan from the beginning. Players who bluff just for the sake of it, or to see if they can get away with one, must remember that bluffs in poker must be played methodically, not randomly. As a poker player, if you choose to play in low or medium stake games where the player pool is substantial, you don't need to bluff often at all. Actually, a low stakes player should pull bluffs only against other players that he/she plays with on a regular basis. I know it sound awkward, but it's useless to bluff a player you might never play against in the future.
